Pestal, Lauren

Lauren Pestal
Acalanes Class of 2005
Left Sonoma State after her first semester, Worked at Nordstrom for 7 years, DVC part time, Saint Mary’s, University of Hawaii B.A. in Communications, Works helping veterans
After high school, Lauren attended Sonoma State University because her then-boyfriend was going there. When they broke up, she had not invested herself in the college experience and came home after the first semester. She got a job at Nordstrom that she would have for the next 7 years. During that time, she attended DVC part time and eventually completed her lower division work.

Still working at Nordstrom, she transferred to St. Mary’s College in Moraga. Although she loved St. Mary’s, she had what she calls a “quarter life crisis” and felt she just needed to leave the area and get new experiences. She and a friend moved to Oahu, Hawaii where she completed her B.A. in Communications at The University of Hawaii, graduating in 2014.

While in Hawaii, Lauren met her boyfriend, a Naval deep sea diver. They now live in Florida, where he is stationed. She has found fulfillment working with veterans organizations and currently helps veterans leaving active duty to find their place in the civilian workforce. Her advice? “Leave the Bay Area for college or after college to see the bigger picture.”
