Stress Counselors

Mental Health Intervention Specialists /Crisis Counselors

Mental Health Intervention Specialists/Crisis Counselors are a resource available to students through the generosity of the Acalanes Parents Club.  Mental Health Intervention Specialists work with Academic Counselors, Teachers, Administrators, the School Psychologist and Nurse, as well as support staff to ensure that students receive emotional support, and, if needed, referrals to outside resources.

Many factors can impact a student's ability to perform to their full potential at school. Issues that stress counselors deal with include family conflict, depression, anxiety, eating disorders and substance abuse. Stress counselors facilitate student support and recovery groups; work with teachers and academic counselors to identify at-risk students, and provide educational presentations for students and parents on topics such as drug abuse prevention and intervention, stress management, and parenting teens. If you are concerned about your student, know that there is help available. Please contact your student's academic counselor.

Information on teen mental health and advocacy is available to the entire AHS community, including primary caregivers, teachers and school administrators.  Referrals to Mental Health Intervention Specialists (MHIS) may be made through your student's academic counselor or directly to MHIS.
